The 11 subjects that four-paper schools can draw questions from
From the 2026 cycle, four-paper schools (Reading School, CCHS) can draw questions from any of 11 KS2 subjects taught up to the end of Year 5. Questions test application β how children think with what any primary school teaches β not memorised facts. Schools sitting only English/Maths (Β± creative writing) are unaffected: check your school's own familiarisation guide.

Designing fair tests: which variable to change, measure and keep the same; drawing conclusions from results. Y5 topics: materials, forces, Earth & space, life cycles.

Working like a historian: primary vs secondary evidence, weighing the reliability of sources, placing events in sequence.

Evaluating fieldwork methods, reading maps and data, comparing places and interpreting geographical information.

Reasoning about algorithms: following flowcharts, predicting outputs, spotting bugs in simple step sequences.

Pattern-spotting in unfamiliar or invented languages β e.g. decoding a constructed number system. Logic dressed as language.
