Do grammar schools have catchment areas?

Most selective areas do not use fixed catchment "zones" to decide who qualifies — qualification is based on the 11+ test. However, when a grammar school has more qualified applicants than places, home-to-school distance is usually the deciding factor, and the effective cut-off distance changes every year. So living closer generally improves your chances, but it is never a guarantee.
