Skate Park Spins: a rotation, reflection and symmetry game for the 11+

A skate session of three heats and a final run. Each right answer sends the board off the ramp to land a trick: a spin for rotation, a mirror switch for reflection or a shuvit for symmetry.

About Skate Park Spins

Skate Park Spins practises three non-verbal reasoning skills: turning a figure, reflecting it in a mirror line, and finding its symmetry, including telling a turn from a mirror image. A session is 15 tricks: three heats of four, each leaning on one topic, then a final run of three. The last trick is the Big Air challenge, a harder puzzle on the mega ramp worth 1,000 bonus points.

A wrong answer is a bail, and a card explains the trap, such as a mirror image chosen instead of a turn. Three in a row starts a combo with double points, and at the end the judges score technique, style and flow out of 10. Questions get harder after three right in a row and easier after two misses in a row. Skate Park Spins is part of the full 11+ Arcade, included in every Prep4All plan.

How to play Skate Park Spins

  1. Choose a starting level: Rookie (easy), Pro (medium) or Legend (hard).
  2. Press Drop in, or switch on Daily challenge first to play today’s puzzles at Pro level.
  3. Read each puzzle while the board waits at the ramp, and tap an answer or press keys 1 to 5.
  4. Land three tricks in a row for a combo with double points, and six in a row for triple.
  5. Finish with the Big Air challenge: a harder puzzle worth 1,000 bonus points.

What it practises for the 11+

Rotation
Your child turns a figure 90°, 180° or 270°, clockwise or anti-clockwise, and picks the result, finds the option that is not a rotation, or says how one figure was changed into another. Draw the figure on a sticky note and turn it a quarter at a time: a turned copy always lines up again, but a mirror image only does if you flip the note over. Learn the topic →
Reflection
Your child picks the mirror image of a figure in a dashed mirror line (vertical, horizontal or, at harder levels, diagonal), reflects shaded squares on a grid, and tells a reflection from a turn. Stand a small mirror on the dashed line to check: every part flips and stays the same distance from the line. Learn the topic →
Symmetry
Questions ask how many lines of symmetry a figure has, which dashed line is a line of symmetry, which grid completes a symmetrical pattern and, at harder levels, the order of rotational symmetry. Fold a paper cut-out along a line: if the two halves match exactly, it is a line of symmetry. Learn the topic →

Rotation, reflection and symmetry are part of non-verbal reasoning, which GL Assessment, CEM, ISEB and many independent schools set; FSCE and CSSE set no reasoning papers.
