ISEB Pre-Test Non-Verbal Reasoning: From 2D Patterns to 3D Space
2D patterns and codes plus the 3D/spatial items reportedly expanded on the current platform
The Non-Verbal Reasoning Section (30 minutes)
NVR tests thinking with shapes rather than words — no reading advantage, pure pattern and spatial logic. The official framework covers 2D pattern recognition and manipulating and visualising figures in three dimensions, with the 3D/spatial strand reportedly expanded when the current platform launched in 2022.

How to prepare for ISEB NVR
3D and spatial manipulation is part of ISEB’s official framework — and it is reported to have expanded when the current platform launched in 2022, so an older 2D-only practice diet leaves a gap.
For cube counting, teach a counting system (layer by layer, including hidden blocks) rather than relying on “seeing it”.
Physical practice helps: building blocks, nets and origami genuinely develop the visualisation these items test.
Work on accuracy before speed — at 30 minutes, NVR gives slightly more room than VR.
