English in the 11+

English is tested by every 11+ exam board, including GL Assessment, CEM, CSSE, ISEB and FSCE.

For every question type and topic, with worked examples, see the 11+ English syllabus.

How to use English games for the 11+

  1. Keep a list of words your child gets wrong in the spelling and word-meaning games and revisit them at the end of the week.
  2. After a grammar or punctuation round, ask your child to write one sentence that uses the rule they just practised.
  3. Pair the comprehension game with reading a longer passage, so speed and stamina grow together.
